Cambridge United 2-4 West Ham United

There were goals galore at the Abbey Stadium tonight as West Ham won their first mid-season friendly of the December with a comprehensive 4-2 win.

The game, a testimonial for the Us long serving defender Greg Taylor was the first game for the first team squad since the 2-0 defeat at home to Leicester City at the beginning of November.




And the Hammers continued their poor form from that day by falling a goal behind to Rossi's close-range effort, before Jarrod Bowen equalised less than 60 seconds later with the home fans still celebrating the opening goal.

Emerson Palmieri - who replaced the injured Aaron Cresswell after just 15 minutes - saw his low cross inadvertently turned into his own net by defender Simper on the cusp of half time to send the Hammers into the interval with a narrow advantage.

That lead was doubled midway through the second half by substitute Said Benrahma, who cut in from the left before unleashing a dipping drive that found the top corner to extend West Ham's lead.

And the visitors' fourth and final goal of the night was scored by another substitute, Pierre Ekwah who left the Cambridge goalkeeper rooted to the spot as he found the bottom right corner of the net with a low drive from the edge of the penalty box.

The final goal of the night fittingly perhaps went to the home side and Cambridge's Taylor, who celebrated his testimonial by sending Darren Randolph the wrong way form the penalty spot. It was to be his last action of the game before being substituted to rapturous applause from the home fans.

Next up for West Ham is a trip to Udinese this coming weekend, a game in which David Moyes' side will expect to face a much stiffer test than tonight's League One opponents.
