Manchester City 4-1 West Ham United
Saturday, 4th January 2025
by Staff Writer
Two goals either side of the half time interval were more than enough for City to return to winning ways, as West Ham's week ended with nine goals conceded and only one scored.
It took just ten minutes for the hosts to carve a deeply disjointed West Ham - being watched by former manager David Moyes - open, with the recalled Vladimir Coufal applying the final touch to register his first own goal of the season.
And City doubled their advantage three minutes ahead of the break when Erling Haaland notched his first of the afternoon.
The second half echoed the opening 45 minutes as City made it 3-0 ten minutes after the restart, with Haaland doubling his tally for the day as he lifted the ball over ad advancing Alphonse Areola.
Three minutes later England international Phil Foden added a fourth, as West Ham's leaky defence threatened to fall apart.
Fortunately however City were unable to add to their tally any further, while Niclas Fullkrug grabbed a consolation for Lopetegui's side via a well-worked move on the right that culminated with the German international firing home from 10 yards.

West Ham United's 2025 began in the same way as 2024 ended - with another thumping, this time at the Etihad Stadium.
Having ended last year with an embarrassing 5-0 drubbing at the hands of league leaders Liverpool, the woefully out-of-form Manchester City became the latest team to dish out a comfortable beating to Julen Lopetegui's hapless Hammers. Two goals either side of the half time interval were more than enough for City to return to winning ways, as West Ham's week ended with nine goals conceded and only one scored.
