And West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui - who was booked for his protests - was left spitting feathers after seeing FOUR penalties appeals denied by match official Andrew Madley.
Although it ultimately proved to be a thoroughly disappointing night for West Ham, Lopetegui's side had taken the lead on 21 minutes through a farcical own goal, which saw Wataru Endo's attempted clearance striking team-mate Jarell Quansah before rolling over the line.
And moments after West Ham had seen their first penalty appeal rejected, after a tug on Jean-Clair Todibo's shirt had been ignored by referee Madley, Diogo Jota nodded Liverpool level - although the goal should've been ruled out for an earlier offside.
With the game evenly poised at the half time interval, West Ham had plenty of cause for optimism ahead of the second half. However four goals conceded, one red card and three more penalty appeals later, it was all over for another season.
The first appeal came, once again, moments before a Liverpool goal. This time Joe Gomez clearly handled the ball inside the area but West Ham's aminated appeals were ignored by the official. Within 60 seconds, Jota turned the tie in the hosts' favour, after converting a pass from Curtis Jones..
Max Kilman missed a gilt-edged opportunity to level the scores as he failed to turn his effort over the line from inside the six-yard box following a scramble from a corner.
And it was miss the Hammers were punished for when substitute Mo Salah added a third for Liverpool on 74 minutes - a goal that followed yet another penalty appeal by West Ham, ignored as per the others, after the ball struck the elbow of Kostas Tsimikas
Edson Alvarez, who had already received a caution for a Sunday League challenge then saw red for a second, bookable offence - the first time the Mexican has been dismissed in a West Ham shirt.
And the hosts took full advantage of their numerical superiority by adding two further goals in the closing minutes.
Cody Gakpo added to West Ham's second half misery by scoring in the 90th and 93rd minutes to make the final score 5-1, as West Ham's Head Coach Lopetegui - booked earlier in the second half for his vociferous complaints - slumped in his chair like a scolded schoolboy.
