Nationwide Division OneWest Ham United 1 Norwich City 1
Wednesday, 15th October 2003
by Ryan McGill
West Ham supporters were treated to a glimpse of the future last night, as a fit, well organised team lead by a bright manager outplayed a superior side on their own ground, and were unlucky not to secure a deserved win.

Player Ratings
David JamesGreat shot stopper, and a welcome new willingness to bowl the ball out to the full-backs. Kicking still looks suspect.

Tomas Repka
Usual committed performance, but gave away a string of needless fouls that could?EUR(TM)ve been costly against a team with a dead-ball specialist.

Wayne Quinn
Good going forward, but average in defence. Partnership with Etherington looks exciting.

Christian Dailly
Captaincy is about more that tossing a coin. As usual failed to rouse his players when they were under pressure.

Ian Pearce
Average performance, clearances rarely found their target and was slow to react to loose balls around the box.

Kevin Horlock
Usual quietly effective performance. Kept the ball moving well during the Hammers dominant spell in the first half.

Matthew Etherington
Looked lightening quick at times, always a threat with the ball and never stopped running. Useful shots and crosses, better finishing could have won us the match.

Michael Carrick
Faded in the second half, but showed his quality on the ball. His talent will make the difference in many games to come.

Niclas Alexandersson
Useful delivery from the right, but no goal threat. Will be interesting to see if his loan spell is extended?

Neil Mellor
Lacks Defoe?EUR(TM)s single mindedness, or Connelly?EUR(TM)s desire and effort. Was struggling before, and now the fans are on his back, his West Ham future looks far from assured.

Richard Garcia
No goal threat. This could be his last game for the first team?

Substitutes
Rob LeeAverage, but was unlucky to enter the match as Norwich were taking charge.

Don Hutchison
Improved the attack, but that?EUR(TM)s not saying much.

Anton Ferdinand
Arrived too late to make an impact.

Stephen Bywater
Did not play.

Matthew Kilgallon
Did not play.
