Preston North End 2 West Ham United 1
Saturday, 18th December 2004
by KUMB
The pressue on Alan Pardew increased once again tonight following another miserable away day defeat - this time at Preston.
West Ham - who have managed just one win away from home in the league since September - went down 2-1 thanks to first half goals from Eddie Lewis and Brian O'Neil on the ground where Glenn Roeder's Hammers won 2-1 on the opening day of last season. Both goals left question marks over the West Ham defence; Lewis' opener - a 25-yard strike - came after the Hammers had failed to clear their lines, and Tomas Repka was at fault when his mistake let in Brian O'Neil for the second on the stroke of half-time.
Half-time substitute Nigel Reo-Coker restored some pride to the Hammers five minutes into the second half when he converted a low cross from the right flank by Tomas Repka, but the home side were solid in defence and clung on to record their first win in three.
