Bournemouth

1-1: Saturday, 20th January

What he lacked in pace going forward he made up for in strength, shrugging off multiple Bournemouth defences and holding the ball well in complicated situations.

Shrewsbury Town

1-0: Tuesday, 16th January

A mighty presence in the air and chipping in very well in defence and in attack.

Huddersfield Town

4-1: Saturday, 13th January

Once again very hit and miss at the heart of the Hammers midfield, but did have a hand in Arnautovic's goal 11 seconds after the restart with a neat flick on.

A mighty presence in the air and chipping in very well in defence and in attack.

Never got to grips with the match. Constantly giving his opponents half-a-yard when defending allowing them to put some dangerous balls into the box.

Bournemouth

3-3: Tuesday, 26th December

Was a nuiscance for his opponents in midfield with his bulky presence.

Newcastle United

2-3: Saturday, 23rd December

Alongside Obiang, failed to act as a supply line for the attacking players.

Quite a clumsy player but provides the strength and grit in midfield.

Huddersfield Town

2-0: Monday, 11th September

Time and time again was in the right place at the right time, but his finishing let him down failing to hit the target in the clear cut opportunities that presented themselves.

(Replaced Noble) Nice to see him back. Very comfortable on the ball and an overall physical powerhouse in midfield.

Tottenham Hotspur

1-0: Friday, 5th May

Immense. If he’d gotten his feet sorted out in the first half he might have had a goal for all his efforts. MOTM for me.

Tottenham Hotspur

1-0: Friday, 5th May

Forever looking to play the ball out of danger. He was the perfect man to link attack and defence and once again produced a stellar performance.

2-3: Saturday, 18th March

Two positions in the one match. Took him a while to settle in the centre of defence.

AFC Bournemouth

2-3: Saturday, 11th March

Nutt-sed for the opening goal but rallied thereafter. Not a right back however and neevr will be.

Also nutmegged for their first. An otherwise decent runout in the problem right-back slot.

Manchester City

0-5: Friday, 6th January

Our lack of defensive capability on the right saw him covering two or three positions at once. Not bad under the circumstances.

A classy performance from a very important player. Payet and Noble drew the plaudits last season but it was Kouyate that kept the midfield ticking over. Tonight he takes the acclaim for two goals that steered West Ham into the next round of the competition.

Stoke City

Marshalled what little threat the visitors posed quite well but, given the way they lined up, I’d have liked to have seen him bringing the ball out of defence a bit more.

Astra Giurgiu

0-1: Thursday, 25th August

The workrate was there, as always, but the quality and finesse sadly lacking tonight.

AFC Bournemouth

1-0: Sunday, 21st August

Not a bad effort for a player who was supposedly unable to walk 72 hours earlier!

Astra Giurgiu

1-1: Thursday, 18th August

1-2: Monday, 15th August

Not really in the game at all, which was unusual for a player of Cheik's quality.

Juventus

A classy performance from a very important player. Payet and Noble drew the plaudits last season but it was Kouyate that kept the midfield ticking over. Tonight he takes the acclaim for two goals that steered West Ham into the next round of the competition.

Two very clever finishes added the icing to the cake of what was a MOTM performance.

Stoke City

1-2: Sunday, 15th May

They stuck someone on him most of the time which curtailed those runs out of defence he usually does.

Manchester United

3-2: Tuesday, 10th May

Another stormer. Last season he was often left out for Alex Song. How many of us would want that this year?

Swansea City

1-4: Saturday, 7th May

A quiet game for the usually imposing central midfielder.

West Bromwich Albion

1-1: Saturday, 30th April

They stuck someone on him most of the time which curtailed those runs out of defence he usually does.

Watford

3-1: Wednesday, 20th April

They stuck someone on him most of the time which curtailed those runs out of defence he usually does.

Leicester City

2-2: Sunday, 17th April

Seemed to be in no-man’s land for much of the game.

Manchester United

1-2: Wednesday, 13th April

Another strong performance from a player who doesn’t catch the eye in the same manner as Payet but whose presence is arguably just as important.

Arsenal

3-3: Saturday, 9th April

Another MOTM candidate and was immense in the middle.

Crystal Palace

2-2: Saturday, 2nd April

Was doing ok up to that mad five minutes. Desparately unlucky to be “Johnny on the spot” as Clattenburg took the excuse to issue the red card he had been looking to give all day.

Chelsea

2-2: Saturday, 19th March

Played the sheet anchor in front of the defence. MOTM for me.

Manchester United

1-1: Sunday, 13th March

Another strong performance from a player who doesn’t catch the eye in the same manner as Payet but whose presence is arguably just as important.

Everton

3-2: Saturday, 5th March

When Noble plays well Kouyate seems to be down a notch – and vice versa. Now when we get them firing together...

Tottenham Hotspur

1-0: Wednesday, 2nd March

Unusually ineffective in the centre of the park. Nearly scored with a crafty bicycle kick that crashed back off the bar.

Sunderland

1-0: Saturday, 27th February

Kept plugging away and might have had more than the one goal that he got.

Blackburn Rovers

5-1: Sunday, 21st February

Kept plugging away and might have had more than the one goal that he got.

Norwich City

2-2: Saturday, 13th February

Kept plugging away and might have had more than the one goal that he got.

Liverpool

2-1: Tuesday, 9th February

Like TOmkins, was victim of a first half reshuffle enfoced by injury.

Aston Villa

2-0: Tuesday, 2nd February

Terrific work rate - none more so evident than when striding through to support Valencia for the killer second goal.

Liverpool

0-0: Saturday, 30th January

Like TOmkins, was victim of a first half reshuffle enfoced by injury.

Manchester City

2-2: Saturday, 23rd January

Storming performance – set up the first and nearly got us the winner with the last touch of the game.

Newcastle United

1-2: Saturday, 16th January

Wile-E is rapidly becoming one of my favourite players in this side. The amount of hard work he gets through is breathtaking.

Wolves

1-0: Saturday, 9th January

Put in some hard miles and often it was his long leg intercepting a possible dangerous pass.

Liverpool

2-0: Saturday, 2nd January

Put in some hard miles and often it was his long leg intercepting a possible dangerous pass.

Southampton

2-1: Sunday, 27th December

The withdrawal of Song meant his role was more clearly defined in the second half and the improvement was pivotal in our resurgence.

Aston Villa

1-1: Saturday, 26th December

Totally off the pace and barely involved, despite hitting the bar with a glancing header in the first half - one of the few occasions on which he got forward to support the front men.

Swansea City

0-0: Sunday, 20th December

A quiet game for the usually imposing central midfielder.

Stoke City

0-0: Saturday, 12th December

They stuck someone on him most of the time which curtailed those runs out of defence he usually does.

Manchester United

0-0: Saturday, 5th December

Chelsea

2-1: Saturday, 24th October

Got the sponsors’ MOTM in what was a difficult week for MOTM choices. Am I allowed more than one MOTM? If so he’s one of them.

Crystal Palace

3-1: Saturday, 17th October

Is it me or will Song have a job to get into our midfield when he finally regains fitness?

Sunderland

2-2: Saturday, 3rd October

Kept plugging away and might have had more than the one goal that he got.

Norwich City

2-2: Saturday, 26th September

Kept plugging away and might have had more than the one goal that he got.

Newcastle United

2-0: Monday, 14th September

Wile-E is rapidly becoming one of my favourite players in this side. The amount of hard work he gets through is breathtaking.

Liverpool

3-0: Saturday, 29th August

A powerhouse who was as full of running in the 97th minute as he had been in the first.

AFC Bournemouth

3-4: Saturday, 22nd August

Battled gamely, took the goal well but also suffered from the general passing malaise.

Leicester City

1-2: Saturday, 15th August

Seemed to be in no-man’s land for much of the game.

Arsenal

2-0: Sunday, 9th August

Another MOTM candidate and was immense in the middle.

Arsenal

2-0: Sunday, 9th August

Worked like a Trojan in the centre of the park and scored the all-important opening goal.

Astra Giurgiu

1-2: Thursday, 6th August

I’ll give him MOTM by default as he slipped back into central defence without missing a beat after Tomkins left.

Astra Giurgiu

FC Lusitanos

By not very much, Man of the Match. Energetic, committed, and wasn't that a lovely thumping header for the opener!

Newcastle United

0-2: Sunday, 24th May

By not very much, Man of the Match. Energetic, committed, and wasn't that a lovely thumping header for the opener!

Aston Villa

0-1: Saturday, 9th May

Ran around a lot; achieved little.

Burnley

1-0: Saturday, 2nd May

Great run to win the pen, and hard-working, as always.

Burnley

1-0: Saturday, 2nd May

Good showing. Is it me or does he come out of his shell more when Song isn’t there? Ok it’s probably me but he gets my MOTM anyway.

Queens Park Rangers

0-0: Saturday, 25th April

Oh, what a horrible miss! On the other hand, he got there in the first place. Rather sums his game up.

Manchester City

0-2: Sunday, 19th April

By not very much, Man of the Match. Energetic, committed, and wasn't that a lovely thumping header for the opener!

Stoke City

1-1: Saturday, 11th April

Work-rate continues to impress, but couldn't outshine an equally hard-working Stoke midfield.

Leicester City

1-2: Saturday, 4th April

Terrific finish and thank the gods he's back in central midfield where he belongs! Almost an 8 today. And I'm not the most generous marker in the world!

Arsenal

0-3: Saturday, 14th March

He certainly could be a DC, but he isn't one right now, and consequently gets caught out occasionally. Still, a good effort, and showed his amazing energy levels by getting well forward at times and still got back.

Chelsea

0-1: Wednesday, 4th March

Crystal Palace

1-3: Saturday, 28th February

Surprisingly anonymous, and gave away a bit of a silly free kick for their third.

Tottenham Hotspur

2-2: Sunday, 22nd February

By not very much, Man of the Match. Energetic, committed, and wasn't that a lovely thumping header for the opener!

West Bromwich Albion

0-4: Saturday, 14th February

As a temporary DC, got found out today.

Southampton

0-0: Wednesday, 11th February

Manchester United

1-1: Sunday, 8th February

Didn't look out of place next to TOmkins and watching him stride out of the back with the ball was reminiscent of Rio Ferdinand in his early days. Oh - and he scored a fairly decent goal too. MotM.

West Bromwich Albion

1-1: Thursday, 1st January

Without Mark Noble or Kevin Nolan alongside him, Cheik often looks uncomfortable as he bears greater defensive responsibility. Not reallt in it much today.

Arsenal

1-2: Sunday, 28th December

Another good, energetic game in the middle, though his first West Ham goal will probably bring him little joy, given the defeat.

Chelsea

0-2: Friday, 26th December

The pick of the midfield, but couldn't be everywhere.

Leicester City

2-0: Saturday, 20th December

Still struggling to replicate his early season form. A couple of early mistakes could have proved costly, although he grew into the game.

Sunderland

1-1: Saturday, 13th December

Doing a good job as the midfield "enforcer", but doing the mucky stuff restricts his chances to shine, so still only a 6.

Sunderland

1-1: Saturday, 13th December

Still struggling to replicate his early season form. A couple of early mistakes could have proved costly, although he grew into the game.

Swansea

3-1: Sunday, 7th December

A mixed game. Gave the ball away poorly on the half-hour, but bravely threw himself at a header 5 minutes before the half-time whistle. So a fairly similar game to Jenks!

Swansea

3-1: Sunday, 7th December

Lots of interceptions but tired a bit in the second half.

West Bromwich Albion

2-1: Tuesday, 2nd December

Stout in defence, but couldn't really impose himself on the Albion midfield, and didn't contribute a huge amount going forwards, bar that one shot.

West Bromwich Albion

2-1: Tuesday, 2nd December

Like Nolan, Chiek worked tirelessly in midfield to deny Albion space and create openings for his own team. Whilst not quite as effective as in the first few weeks of the season, he is pretty much back to full fitness - a major boost ahead of the busy Christmas period.

Newcastle United

1-0: Saturday, 29th November

Industrious without necessarily having a great impact.

Newcastle United

1-0: Saturday, 29th November

Superb inch perfect pass to set up Cresswell (!) but he's had better days.

Aston Villa

0-0: Saturday, 8th November

Rather more busy than effective. Not yet back to pre-injury form.

Aston Villa

0-0: Saturday, 8th November

Did a job but not as influential as he can be.

Manchester City

2-1: Saturday, 25th October

(Replaced Amalfitano) A welcome return to action. Worked hard and imposed himself on the City midfield for his quarter.

Manchester City

2-1: Saturday, 25th October

(Replaced Amalfitano) Came in to shore things up once City changed things around and did well in that respect.

Liverpool

3-1: Saturday, 20th September

Another who put in a fine shift. Even more so considering that he plyed formuch of the game with a groin problem that looked as if he'd need to go off on a couple of occasions.

Liverpool

3-1: Saturday, 20th September

The least of our excellent midfield today. Was relatively quiet today, mostly because he was busy keeping Liverpool quiet; successfully so. I just hope that groin problem isn't more than a mild tweak - we want him at OT next week!

Hull City

2-2: Monday, 15th September

Busy and energetic again, did his bit in keeping Mo mostly quiet!

Southampton

1-3: Saturday, 30th August

Energetic again, but... Learning curve, I guess.

Southampton

1-3: Saturday, 30th August

The one player who never gave up. Shame there weren't more like him out there.

Crystal Palace

3-1: Saturday, 23rd August

MOTM. Quite simply the opposition had no legal way of countering him. Are we allowed to call him Wile E.?

Crystal Palace

3-1: Saturday, 23rd August

Busy, but nowhere near the impact on the game that he had last week.

Tottenham Hotspur

0-1: Saturday, 16th August

Another fine debut – just missed out on my MOTM award by virtue of his having to play out of position for the lat half hour thanks to Ginge.

Tottenham Hotspur

0-1: Saturday, 16th August

Duracell Bunny Man of the Match; never stopped running. Even at the end of the game was challenging for the ball winning it, running 60 yards and chasing back. Solid in defence after Collins was stupid, and looks good on the ball, too.
