Lars Jacobsen

Odense
Squad Number: 37
Position: Defender
Born: 20th Sep 1979 (Odense)
Signed: 31st Aug 2010 (£0)
Contract: 1 year
Previous Club: Blackburn Rovers

KUMB Awards: None.

A Danish international with considerable pedigree, Jacobsen joined the Hammers on transfer deadline day instead of Pascal Chimbonda, who West Ham had been chasing.

The Irons certainly appeared to get the better deal in the end with Jacobsen providing a solid option at right back, a position that has caused problems for United since the departure of former club captain Lucas Neill two seasons prior.

Sunderland

0-3: Sunday, 22nd May

(Replaced Tomkins, 54 mins) Replaced Tomkns and did well enough until the 93rd minute when, in common with the rest of the defence he had already gone to check-in at Stansted.

Blackburn Rovers

1-1: Saturday, 7th May

OK defensively but bereft of ideas going forward.

Chelsea

0-3: Saturday, 23rd April

Really not at the races. Expected too much of Sears. Days like today remind me why Lars was a freebie.

Manchester City

1-2: Saturday, 23rd April

Unlucky with the own goal. Not an amazing performance but did some decent defensive work. Would be good for next season, wherever we may be.

Aston Villa

1-2: Saturday, 16th April

Poor both defensively and going forward.

Bolton Wanderers

0-3: Saturday, 9th April

(Replaced Upson, 46 mins) Comfotable. Should have been in from the start.

Manchester United

2-4: Saturday, 2nd April

Comments to follow.

Tottenham Hotspur

0-0: Saturday, 19th March

It was hard work but he stuck to the task well.

Stoke City

1-2: Sunday, 13th March

Did not play.

Stoke City

3-0: Saturday, 5th March

Did not play.

Liverpool

3-1: Sunday, 27th February

Ah the joys of having a proper right back at right back!

Burnley

5-1: Monday, 21st February

Comments to follow.

West Bromwich Albion

3-3: Saturday, 12th February

Poor. Failed to close down for either of the first two goals and looked suspect positionally throughout.

Birmingham City

0-1: Sunday, 6th February

An improved performance going forward where the beginnings of a partnership with O'Neill is beginning to form. A couple of dodgy moments defensively though.

Blackpool

3-1: Wednesday, 2nd February

Stuck to his task well under pressure and rarely beaten on the flank.

Nottingham Forest

3-2: Sunday, 30th January

Improved after a shaky start during which period their first goal came from his side.

Wigan Athletic

3-1: Saturday, 27th November

Was looking solid enough until forced off by injury.

Liverpool

0-3: Saturday, 20th November

Comments to follow.

Blackpool

0-0: Saturday, 13th November

Not his best effort in the Claret & Blue. Varney caused him problems.

West Bromwich Albion

2-2: Wednesday, 10th November

Arsenal

0-1: Saturday, 30th October

Decent if unspectacular.

Newcastle United

1-2: Saturday, 23rd October

Ok defensively but our failure to keep hold of the ball meant that he was unable to contribute as an attacking force.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

1-1: Saturday, 16th October

Got up and down well but struggled in the first half when our 433 left him exposed.

Fulham

1-1: Saturday, 2nd October

A bit like the District Line – you wonder how we ever got by without a proper right-back.

Tottenham Hotspur

1-0: Sunday, 26th September

It certainly makes a difference having a proper full-back in that slot. Solid in defence and supports the attack well – a nice little right side partnership with Dyer developing there if Dyer can stay fit/well.

Stoke City

1-1: Saturday, 18th September

Classy display. Heard from various sources that he starts well at clubs but fades to nothing. Today he looked high quality, he was solid, never wasted possesion and didn't really give Ethers a sniff. Looks a great signing at the price.

Chelsea

1-3: Saturday, 11th September

Good debut – who'd have thought that playing a right back in the right back could prove so effective.
