Mohammed Kudus

Nima, Ghana
Squad Number: 14
Position: Striker
Born: 2nd Aug 2000 (Nima, Ghana)
Signed: 27th Aug 2023 (£38,400,000)
Contract: 5 years
Previous Club: Ajaz

KUMB Awards: None.

Kudus joined West Ham on 27 August 2023,
signing a five-year contract for an undisclosed fee which was reported to be ?,?45m (??38.4m) plus add-ons.

He made his debut on 1 September in a 2?EUR"1 win at Luton Town, coming on in the 91st minute. He scored his first goals for the club in a group stage game of the 2023/24 Europa League on 21 September at home to Serbian side TSC Backa Topola.

He was the third Ghanaian player to represent West Ham following John Pantsil and Andre Ayew.

After scoring in 4?EUR"3 away defeat by Newcastle United on 30 March 2024, Kudus became the top scoring Ghanaian for the club with 13 goals - surpassing the 12 scored by Andre Ayew. He finished his debut season as the player with most successful dribbles (124) in the Premier League.

vs Ipswich Town

3-1: Sunday, 25th May
(Played 17 minutes, sub)

(Fullkrug 73') It could have been his goodbye, but that is a good cameo performance for a substitute, with a great finish. Five goals and three assists is not a good enough season, but his improvement under Potter has been promising.

vs Nottingham Forest

1-2: Sunday, 18th May
(Played 80 minutes)

He couldn't quite get into things, struggling on that left side and with a team that were happy to settle into deep defensive positions, making space for him to expose when beating players at a real minimum.

vs Manchester United

2-0: Sunday, 11th May
(Played 90 minutes)

He has improved as steadily and consistently as the team has under Potter, and his confidence appears to be coming back. A very good assist, and then led the charge for the second goal, even if his choice to shoot was the wrong one.

vs Tottenham Hotspur

1-1: Saturday, 3rd May
(Played 90 minutes)

He looks like a lost little boy who'd rather be anywhere else. The confidence and the instinct has gone from his play, and he's not a particularly good player without that.

vs Brighton & Hove Albion

2-3: Saturday, 26th April
(Played 90 minutes)

Finally got his goal, months of struggling, and it was a reward for perseverance.

vs Newcastle United

0-1: Saturday, 8th March
(Played 90 minutes)

As a front two, they were left with too much to do. They were the only creators in the team, tasked with dropping deep to carry the ball, too, and yet found themselves leading attacks as a pair alone. Kudus should have got a shot off late in the first half, made himself somewhat a nuisance but couldn't make that moment of magic happen.

vs Leicester City

2-0: Tuesday, 25th February
(Played 90 minutes)

A touch quieter today, with less space to run into, but looks a different player than his struggles in the first half of the season.

vs Brentford

0-1: Saturday, 15th February
(Played 90 minutes)

A really poor performance from a player who looks completely shot of confidence. Didn?EUR(TM)t work in the centre, didn?EUR(TM)t work on the left, and he seems to have lost the ability to play with any instinct. Without that, he?EUR(TM)s much lesser of a player.

vs Chelsea

1-2: Monday, 3rd February
(Played 90 minutes)

Still lacking a little bit of the consistency that made him a constant threat last season, but Kudus is definitely improving with time under Potter. His energy looks better, and he was unlucky not to equalise.

vs Aston Villa

1-1: Saturday, 25th January
(Played 90 minutes)

Kudus was very important in the first half, his threat on the ball forcing Villa back and lifting the pressure off a struggling defence. He faded a little in the second half, but never shirked his work and chased back to defend well on many occasions.

vs Southampton

1-0: Thursday, 26th December
(Played 90 minutes)

Quite possible his least effective game in a West Ham shirt. Lost count at six when recalling the number of times he conceded possession, twice criminally around the cusp of West Ham's penalty box which a better team that Soton would've capitalised on. Anonymous on the left and little better when moved inside following a second half reshuffle.

vs AFC Bournemouth

1-1: Saturday, 14th December
(Played 90 minutes)

Could have been better, but was a threat when there was chaos. It can be questioned whether he suits the slower build of this team, and he doesn't look sharp yet, but he's been a threat again.

vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

2-1: Saturday, 7th December
(Played 88 minutes)

Had his moments, but doesn't look happy in his play. He links well with Bowen, though, and that was the success of Bowen up front. Both seem to enable the other well, but both want to be on the right wing.

vs Leicester City

1-3: Tuesday, 3rd December
(Played 79 minutes)

When West Ham looked dangerous, he was playing reasonably well, but it was like the enthusiasm drained from him as the game went on, and he couldn't muster up the energy to get involved as the game went on.

vs Tottenham Hotspur

1-4: Saturday, 19th October
(Played 90 minutes)

A good performance until it went bad, and it went as bad as it can. Selfish, lazy, arrogant, childish.

vs Brentford

1-1: Saturday, 28th September
(Played 45 minutes)

Was livelier than most in the first half, but it wasn't enough for the manager. He isn't as comfortable on the left and clearly finds it harder to get shots off how he likes down that channel.

vs Liverpool

1-5: Wednesday, 25th September

vs Manchester City

1-3: Saturday, 31st August
(Played 90 minutes)

Probably West Ham's most troubling threat, his ability to turn under pressure makes him one of the best counter attacking players in the world. Unlucky with the chance, a better pass from Bowen makes that a much easier opening.

vs AFC Bournemouth

1-0: Wednesday, 28th August

(Replaced Fullkrug, 74) Not spectacular or anything, but his drive and guile got the team moving again and earned the winner.

vs Crystal Palace

2-0: Saturday, 24th August
(Played 88 minutes)

Not at his best, with the odd exciting carry and one good shot about all he had to show for his game. Of the starters, only Antonio played fewer passes, and Kudus played 25 minutes more.

vs Aston Villa

1-2: Saturday, 17th August
(Played 90 minutes)

The chances created in the game were mostly by him, he beat men on the run as he does and looked the only threat in the first half. He was let down by the team around him.

Manchester City

1-3: Sunday, 19th May

Single-handedly made the game watchable for West Ham fans. At times, he was spinning and beating three or four of City's best all on his own, and the goal was pure brilliance.

Liverpool

2-2: Saturday, 27th April

Crystal Palace

2-5: Sunday, 21st April

He tried, but he couldn't get into things, and his energy and enthusiasm was so depleted into the second half. But even earlier, he just couldn't lead any counters or get West Ham started.

Fulham

0-2: Saturday, 13th April

The one attacking player who looked capable of threatening, and who did not stop trying. He's an absolute gem.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

2-1: Saturday, 6th April

Creative and clearly one who defenders are scared of. Good chance he created for Emerson, some good runs.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

2-1: Saturday, 6th April

Creative and clearly one who defenders are scared of. Good chance he created for Emerson, some good runs.

Tottenham Hotspur

1-1: Tuesday, 2nd April

Teams are scared of him carrying the ball. He's forcing fouls and bookings because teams would rather take him down before he gets going. He does appear to lose a little bit of goal threat by operating on the left, but he's also picking it up deeper and carrying far, and that allows Bowen to just get up into the business end.

Tottenham Hotspur

1-1: Tuesday, 2nd April

A decent performance from the Ghanian who was the main creative force of our attack.

Newcastle United

3-4: Saturday, 30th March

Another of the four-star components up top. The attacking quartet works, and Kudus is making it work on the left, even if he does feel a little out of position at times. Wherever he plays, if you can get him running at defenders on the counter, West Ham will profit. Excellent goal, just sharp instincts, whilst the assist for Bowen was majestic.

Newcastle United

3-4: Saturday, 30th March

Great dribbling as always from the Ghanian and a brilliantly taken goal to give us the lead in the first half.

Newcastle United

3-4: Saturday, 30th March

Great dribbling as always from the Ghanian and a brilliantly taken goal to give us the lead in the first half.

Aston Villa

1-1: Saturday, 16th March

In moments and bursts, he was brilliant. Not consistently, but he always makes things happen and provides a chance or two every game.

Burnley

2-2: Sunday, 10th March

The Ghanian was our brightest player in the first half on the right hand side and again looked dangerous in the second half when he was switched to the left hand side.

Burnley

2-2: Sunday, 10th March

Creates chances even when it feels like he isn't at his best, but did miss a massive chance.

Manchester United

0-3: Saturday, 3rd February

Any spark really was from him. Unfortunately, there is only one of him, as he was needed deep enough to start moves and drive out from defensive positions, but also higher up to benefit from his own work.

Bournemouth

1-1: Thursday, 1st February

Not at his best, a touch more periphery than usual, but came up trumps in the big moment. The only real threat in the team.

Arsenal

2-0: Tuesday, 26th December

Faded a little in the second half but was an enormous source of relief for the defence, especially in the first half. The carries may have mostly just won territory up the field, but the rest was an absolute necessity to relieve the pressure and give the team time to move up. He bullied Zinchenko, who looked miles short of the required standard to match him.

Arsenal

2-0: Tuesday, 26th December

Great dribbling and will be missed when he goes to AFCON for a month.

Manchester United

2-0: Saturday, 23rd December

He's a baller and the rest of the Premier League is finally beginning to sit up and take note. Another brilliant finish after making a goal for himself.

Liverpool

1-5: Wednesday, 20th December

Part of a completely ineffective front three that created just two shots in the entire match (only one of which was on target). Not the night for Mo.

Liverpool

1-5: Wednesday, 20th December

Not Kudus’ best game for West Ham but it was due to the lack of service rather than any technical ability.

Freiburg

2-0: Thursday, 14th December

Quietly moving his way into Hammer of the Year contention, so far. His sixth goal for the club, his 10th of the season if you include four for Ajax, and a constant threat. Really suits a Moyes team, due to his ability to dribble under pressure, especially on his back.

Fulham

0-5: Saturday, 9th December

He tried, but ultimately failed, and was a long way short of the spark he's been in recent games that has carried the poorer performances around him.

Nottingham Forest

3-2: Sunday, 12th November

Fits and starts but nothing consistent from Kudus. Couldn't really create or find space and struggled to make a telling impact, but kept working hard and doesn't shirk his defensive duties.

Nottingham Forest

3-2: Sunday, 12th November

Didn't provide much of an impact from the right and was very slow on the ball when West Ham needed to counter.

Olympiacos

1-0: Thursday, 9th November

A bright start but soon began to look a bit isolated stuck on the wing and quickly faded in the second half.

Olympiacos

1-0: Thursday, 9th November

His worst game in a West Ham shirt as his end product wasn't great and he got marked out the game by Olympiacos.

Arsenal

3-1: Wednesday, 1st November

Superb touch and finish for the second goal and starting to look like he's settling into the team. Supported Vladimir Coufal well in the defensive work which adds another element to his game.

Arsenal

3-1: Wednesday, 1st November

He just needs to be in the team. He, Bowen and Paqueta just defended with such energy when let off the leash to go press, it was refreshing. He also carries a goal threat, but with the ability to play in deeper areas. West Ham need that eye for a goal, and the pace, as well as the combativeness.

Everton

0-1: Saturday, 28th October

Some brilliant dribbles to start attacks. The ball just seems to stick to his feet.

Everton

0-1: Saturday, 28th October

In the early stages, Kudus excited the crowd every time he got the ball. He turned in tight spaces and got okay moving forward. That influence faded as Everton got to grips with him, and that pretty much ended West Ham’s promise.

Olympiacos

1-2: Thursday, 26th October

Looked bright but ultimately had no support from his right back, central midfielder or striker and was marked out of the game by Olympiacos who had touted him as the danger man.

Olympiacos

1-2: Thursday, 26th October

Impactless game. Stuck out on the wing for most of it, he never really got involved, and couldn't ever find much space to create anything.

Aston Villa

1-4: Saturday, 21st October

(Replaced Soucek 67) Struggled to make an impact on the game.

Aston Villa

1-4: Saturday, 21st October

(Replaced Soucek 67) Couldn't bring much life to a team that were floundering. Individually, he was quite good, beating players and looking for the ball. Should have started.

Newcastle United

2-2: Saturday, 7th October

(Replaced Soucek 76) Not just for the wonderful goal, but the way he picked up the ball in tight areas and turned to create space and drive. Added a different dimension, which lifted a flat team and got us back into the game.

Sheffield United

2-0: Saturday, 30th September

(Replaced Antonio 72) Tried to add some spark when he got the ball, but the team was very flat.

Luton Town

2-1: Friday, 1st September

(Replaced Paqueta 90+1) Debut win, no dramas...
