Aston Villa

2-2: Saturday, 10th May

Always looked dangerous on the ball. Fine free-kick though the ‘keeper helped a bit.

Manchester United

1-4: Saturday, 3rd May

(replaced Boa Morte, 52) Since we didn’t show-up as an attacking force in the second half we failed to give him the service that would enable him to contribute.

Manchester United

1-4: Saturday, 3rd May

(replaced Boa Morte, 52) Should have been on from start. Did his best and whipped in some useful balls when he came on.

Newcastle United

2-2: Saturday, 26th April

(replaced Ljungberg, 90+4) No time to have any impact. Received a warm reception by both sets of fans.

Newcastle United

2-2: Saturday, 26th April

(replaced Ljungberg, 90+4) Barely put a foot wrong in the 30 seconds or so he was on the pitch. Really not on long enough to register but the boss needs a mark for his database!

Derby County

2-1: Saturday, 19th April

(replaced Faubert, 78) A few good runs down the left though you’d rather have had him in the middle.

Portsmouth

0-1: Tuesday, 8th April

A couple of half-decent crosses but failed to dominate a match that was crying out for a spot of creativity.

Sunderland

1-2: Saturday, 29th March

(replaced Cole, 65) Some clever stuff in the few minutes after he came on but the rearguard action meant that he was bypassed for much of the second half.

Everton

1-1: Saturday, 22nd March

(replaced Ljungberg, 80) Made little impression in his short time on the field.

Blackburn Rovers

2-1: Monday, 17th March

Good in first half, went missing in second and passing a bit sloppy. Looked short of match fitness.

Blackburn Rovers

2-1: Monday, 17th March

Tried hard enough but not much went right for him. Unusually for him he displayed a tendency to over-hit his crosses. Good free-kick in the first half though.

Chelsea

0-4: Saturday, 1st March

(replaced Faubert, 66) Slightly livelier than Faubert but that wasn’t difficult.

Fulham

1-0: Saturday, 23rd February

(replaced Faubert, 63) We looked a lot better with Nobby on the pitch. Put in at least one superb 40 yard pass and, whilst there may have been a spot of fortune about the goal, that would have resulted from his determination to win the ball.

Wigan Athletic

1-0: Saturday, 2nd February

(replaced Etherington, 48) Seemed to be affected by the pitch mre than most which meant his usual accurate crossing went out of the window.

Liverpool

1-0: Wednesday, 30th January

Did not play.

Manchester United

2-1: Saturday, 29th December

Unlucky not to have scored. Unlucky not to get a penalty. Unluckier still to do his hamstring.

Manchester United

2-1: Saturday, 29th December

What a shame he had to go off injured. Until then his intelligent promptings were perhaps the best thing about the game.

Reading

1-1: Wednesday, 26th December

A touch of class for his goal, yet it is tiresome to see him constantly withdrawn in the second half. He selfishly takes the team's creative spark with him.

Everton

0-2: Saturday, 15th December

Was in and out of the game but looked like our best hope of a decent cross before his mysterious substitution.

Everton

0-2: Saturday, 15th December

His substitution was certainly strange, especially as his contribution had led to three chances.

Chelsea

0-1: Saturday, 1st December

Another “good in parts” performance – his booking was a complete joke though.

Tottenham Hotspur

1-1: Saturday, 24th November

Drifted in and out a bit – not sure if he’d been away with Peru but if so that might explain why he looked so exhausted when subbed. Good work for the goal.

Derby County

5-0: Saturday, 10th November

A class act. It’s nice to see someone who can deliver a dead ball so well – not just the free-kicks but corners too. Now if we can get him out of the habit of needing a sighter first…!

Bolton Wanderers

1-1: Sunday, 4th November

One or two neat touches but still failing to reproduce his Newcastle form.
