A giant of a man who stands 6'5" tall, Diop signed for West Ham United on the penultimate day of the 2011 summer transfer window having been released by AEK Athens for personal reasons.

The midfielder began his career with Swiss minnows Neuchatel Xamax and scored his first goal in English football for Fulham against West Ham back in 2003. He moved to Craven Cottage despite interest from Manchester United and remained there until 2007 when Portsmouth paid ??3.5million to take him to Fratton Park.

A year after moving to Pompey he was the subject of a ??4million bid - rejected by Portsmouth - from Italian giants AC Milan. However his spell on the South Coast continued until 2010 when he was sold to AEK for a knockdown price of just ??300,000 in order to remove his considerable salary from the bankrupt club's wage bill.

Diop was first linked with a move to West Ham during the January 2011 transfer window but then-manager Avram Grant's deadline day approach failed to succeed.

Nottingham Forest

2-1: Saturday, 21st January

Wasn’t really in the game before he was forced off before half-time with injury. Hopefully it’s not a bad one as he’s key in our midfield.

Portsmouth

1-0: Saturday, 14th January

Got through a lot of the engine room work and put some good blocks in.

Derby County

1-2: Saturday, 31st December

Ok when he stuck to what he is best at but guilty of over elaborating from time to time. Could have done more to prevent the first goal.

Barnsley

1-0: Saturday, 17th December

Immense in any number of ways. 'The Wardrobe' was a veritable rock in midfield and a provided a fine header for the goal.

Burnley

1-2: Saturday, 3rd December

Did not play.

Coventry City

2-1: Saturday, 19th November

The game largely passed him by bar a couple of late but non-malicious challenges that saw him carded.

Hull City

2-0: Saturday, 5th November

Broke up play well and laid it off. What we expect of him really.

Blackpool

4-0: Saturday, 15th October

Simple and effective. Broke up attack after attack, laid the ball off and set us up on our own attacks.

Crystal Palace

2-2: Saturday, 1st October

Good – if unspectacular – debut. Gets my MOTM for his calm consistency over the 90.

Ipswich Town

0-1: Tuesday, 27th September
