PraguePosition: Midfielder
Born: 27th Nov 1979 (Prague)
Signed: 14th Aug 2009 (£2,000,000)

Czech international Kovac was brought in on loan during the January 2009 transfer window (with view to a permanent deal) to replace the outgoing Hayden Mullins who joined Portsmouth 48 hours prior to Kovac's arrival.
The blonde midfielder was captain of Russian side Spartak before joining the Hammers, and it is for his experience that he has been drafted into Gianfranco Zola's squad. A versatile player, Kovac can also play at centre half.
Having briefly returned to Spartak in the summer following the expiry of his loan spell Gianfranco Zola moved to sign the player on a permanent deal later in the summer.

Birmingham City
0-1: Sunday, 6th FebruaryDid not play.
Blackpool
3-1: Wednesday, 2nd February(Replaced Keane, 84 mins) A big lump chucked in to deal with subs Harewood and Beattie. Nothing pretty (apart from his flowing locks perhaps) but he did what he had to do in those frantic, final few minutes.
Nottingham Forest
3-2: Sunday, 30th JanuaryAwful.

Wolverhampton Wanderers
2-0: Saturday, 1st JanuaryAnother decent run out from the midfielder who finally seems to have worked out that he is actually allowed to about a bit. He's not overdoing it, mind but every little helps.

Sunderland
0-1: Sunday, 5th DecemberDid not play.
Manchester United
4-0: Tuesday, 30th NovemberStill a weak spot for me. Gave the ball away far too much and, as the saying goes, there are times where he traps a ball further than I can kick one.
Wigan Athletic
3-1: Saturday, 27th November(Replaced Parker, 82 mins) His only contributions were on the debit side – a stupid free-kick given away late on and his failure to come out of defence could have proved costly.
Liverpool

Stoke City
3-1: Wednesday, 27th OctoberHis withdrawal was the catalyst for our recovery.
Fulham
1-1: Saturday, 2nd OctoberDid not play.
Tottenham Hotspur
1-0: Sunday, 26th September(Replaced Obinna, 89 mins) Replaced Obinna at the end in an attempt to run down the clock. Not sure if he actually touched the ball.
Tottenham Hotspur
1-0: Sunday, 26th September(Replaced Obinna, 89 mins) Replaced Obinna at the end in an attempt to run down the clock. Not sure if he actually touched the ball.
Sunderland
2-1: Tuesday, 21st SeptemberA decent game. His distribution was better than I've seen from him before.
Stoke City
1-1: Saturday, 18th September(Replaced Behrami, 52 mins) Looked pretty solid but then games against Stoke, Wolves, Blackpool etc are his bread and butter. This man will never let you down in a game against a team of limited yet physical ability.
Chelsea
1-3: Saturday, 11th SeptemberDid not play.
Manchester United
0-3: Saturday, 28th AugustDid not play.
Oxford United

Bolton Wanderers
1-3: Saturday, 21st AugustDid not play.
Aston Villa
0-3: Saturday, 14th AugustStill can't pass a football, which is criminal for someone playing at this level.
Manchester City
1-1: Sunday, 9th MayTook the ball from Tevez a few times before reverting to type and giving it away.
Fulham
2-3: Monday, 3rd MayI'm hard pushed to remember anything he did – and not merely because it had been a long day!
Wigan Athletic
3-2: Saturday, 24th AprilA few good tackles, a few good headers. On the spot for the goal but not nearly as good as Upton Girlie would have you believe.
Liverpool
0-3: Monday, 19th AprilComments to follow.
Sunderland
1-0: Saturday, 10th AprilWorked hard but when will he learn to pass?
Everton
2-2: Thursday, 1st AprilPut his foot in where it hurts, good to see the big Czech getting stuck in. Some excellent work in the middle of the park that frustrated the home side.
Stoke City
0-1: Saturday, 27th MarchDid not play.
Wolverhampton Wanderers
1-3: Tuesday, 23rd MarchWon a header early on, thus bringing a premature end to his positive contributions for the evening. A worrying lapse into the haplessness of earlier games.
Wolverhampton Wanderers
1-3: Tuesday, 23rd MarchJust really, really poor. Awful passer of the ball and was lucky not to conceded a penalty for a simply stupid challenge.
Arsenal
0-2: Saturday, 20th MarchComments to follow.
Chelsea
1-4: Saturday, 13th MarchComments to follow.
Bolton Wanderers
1-2: Saturday, 6th MarchPoor – his passing really needs working on.
Manchester United
0-3: Tuesday, 23rd FebruaryA decent effort even if he was overrun at times. The passing still fails to inspire.
Hull City
3-0: Sunday, 21st FebruaryPossibly the one weak spot on the day. Although his tenacity led to the first goal his distribution through the rest of the match was dreadful.
Hull City
3-0: Sunday, 21st FebruaryQuietly effective.
Hull City
3-0: Sunday, 21st FebruaryPossibly the one weak spot on the day. Although his tenacity led to the first goal his distribution through the rest of the match was dreadful.
Birmingham City
2-0: Wednesday, 10th FebruaryGot his foot in well but please somebody tell him how to pass.
Burnley
1-2: Saturday, 6th FebruaryDid not play.
Blackburn Rovers
0-0: Saturday, 30th JanuaryHad a similar game to Behrami without putting in the mileage. I suppose that’s economy of effort for you.
Portsmouth
1-1: Tuesday, 26th JanuaryComments to follow.
Aston Villa

Portsmouth
2-0: Saturday, 26th DecemberComments to follow.
Chelsea
1-1: Sunday, 20th DecemberA bit like a speed hump he got in the way and, by accident or design managed to break up a lot of Chelsea moves. Distribution wasn’t too bad for once as long as he didn’t over-elaborate.
Bolton
1-3: Tuesday, 15th DecemberComments to follow.
Birmingham City
0-1: Saturday, 12th DecemberComments to follow.
Manchester United
0-4: Saturday, 5th DecemberIf he wants to spend 90 minutes watching a football match he should pay for the privilege like the rest of us.
Burnley
5-3: Saturday, 28th NovemberOne of his better games. Kept it simple and his ball through to Spector for the first penalty was excellent.
Hull City
3-3: Saturday, 21st NovemberDid not play.
Sunderland
2-2: Saturday, 31st OctoberAlthough hideously unlucky to be sent off, he had a poor game and looks as if he’d have difficulty finding a team mate in an all-West Ham training kickabout at the moment.
Arsenal
2-2: Sunday, 25th October(Replaced Behrami, 90 mins) Presumably he came on as an exercise in running the clock down. That was about all he was able to do in the two minutes or so he was on the pitch.
Stoke City
1-2: Saturday, 17th OctoberComments to follow.
Manchester City
1-3: Monday, 28th SeptemberPlayed ok, seems to improving gradually.
Bolton Wanderers
1-3: Tuesday, 22nd SeptemberGave the ball away and got caught in possession too often.
Liverpool
2-3: Saturday, 19th September(Replaced Behrami, 27 mins) It doesn’t usually work with him and Parker together but this was one of his better games – his strength in the air was an asset.
Wigan Athletic
0-1: Saturday, 12th SeptemberI couldn’t quite work out what he was supposed to be there for. Unfortunately, it appeared that neither could he.
Blackburn Rovers
0-0: Saturday, 29th August(Replaced Collison, 87 mins) Brought on to ensure no late defensive errors occured.
Millwall
3-1: Tuesday, 25th AugustDespite half a season here last term our Czech mate still appears to be coming to terms with the pace of the English game.
Tottenham Hotspur
1-2: Sunday, 23rd August(Replaced Jimenez, 78 mins) Kept wasting possession.
Tottenham Hotspur
1-2: Sunday, 23rd August(Replaced Jimenez, 78 mins) Kept wasting possession.
Middlesbrough
2-1: Sunday, 24th MayA couple of half-decent efforts but doesn’t look worth the transfer fee being suggested at present.
Liverpool
0-3: Saturday, 9th MayNot great. Failed to track back for the first and his passing left much to be desired.
Stoke City
1-0: Saturday, 2nd MayMuch-improved on last week’s showing v Chelsea. Got some important blocks in but somebody please tell him to stop passing the ball straight into touch.
Chelsea
0-1: Saturday, 25th April(Replaced Di Michele, 61 mins) Kovac has an imaginary friend that only he can see. Which would be fine if only he didn’t insist on passing to him.
Blackburn Rovers
1-1: Saturday, 21st MarchSpent much of the 90 in a rather uneven struggle being hauled over by Samba. Stuck to the job well and made a number of clearances that would have been a lot better if the forwards had been able to hold things up.
West Bromwich Albion
0-0: Monday, 16th MarchNot quite as adept at winning the ball as Parker. Gave it away as much.
West Bromwich Albion
0-0: Monday, 16th MarchDoes not look good enough for this level. As soon as he gets the ball he passes sideways. Would much rather see Noble play in this role.
Bolton Wanderers
1-2: Saturday, 21st FebruaryDid not play.
Manchester City
1-0: Saturday, 21st FebruaryAn improvement on Wednesday but still prone to giving the ball away.
Middlesbrough
1-1: Saturday, 14th FebruaryDid not play.
