Signed from League One Wolves to cover a chronic central defensive shortage, Johnson arrived at the Boleyn Ground just five days into the 2014 January transfer window.
Prior to becoming a Hammer, Johnson had spent the first half of the 2013/14 season on loan with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday who were hoping to sign the defender on a permanent basis.
However the move was gazumped by the Hammers, who signed Johnson on a free transfer.
After starting his career at Wycombe, Johnson moved to Cardiff in July 2006 in a £275,000 switch. Three years later, Birmingham City - owned at the time by Messrs Sullivan and Gold - paid £5million to take him to to St Andrew's before they sold him to neighbours Wolves for £7million in the summer of 2011.
He joined Wednesday on loan in September 2013, since when he featured on 17 occasions.
