Spurs legend blasts Hammers

Former Tottenham star Steve Perryman has blasted West Ham, accusing them of ignoring his recent application for the post of manager of the club.

Perryman - currently working as an unpaid director of football for lowly Exeter City - claimed earlier in the week that the Hammers ignored his application for the job, the race for which was won by Alan Pardew.

Coming somewhat out of the blue bearing in mind the former full-back was never even considered to be in the running, a somewhat bitter Perryman - speaking in the local Echo newspaper - blasted:

"Yes, I applied for the West Ham job. But despite them contacting me in Japan when they needed help for a work permit for Hayden Foxe and therefore accepted my opinion enough to ask for it, they weren't respectful enough to send a reply to my application.

"I find it incredibly strange and, to be honest, disrespectful. I would have to question whether I ever help them again - because it is not acceptable."

Perryman assisted the Hammers in the protracted deal which saw Australian defender Foxe - dubbed at the time by Harry Redknapp as 'the white Rio Ferdinand' - move to East London from Sanfrecce Hiroshima (albeit via the European mainland and a new French wife).

Foxe - whose most memorable contribution whilst at West Ham was urinating in a plant pot at the Hammers 2001 Xmas party - has, of course, since moved on (with Redknapp and one or two other former Hammers) - to Portsmouth.

As for Perryman? West Ham have unequivocally dismissed the claims; a spokesman stating:

"We are not aware of Steve Perryman applying for the job as he wasn't on the list of applicants."
