Hammers legend Tony Cottee has been released from his contract with first division Norwich City after just one month at Carrow Road, to take over as player/coach with third division Barnet.

Cottee's contract with the Canaries was cancelled by mutual consent after it was revealed that Barnet had offered him the player/coach role.

Cottee said earlier: "I have been offered a player-management position and that is something which is right for me and something that I have wanted to do for the past three seasons.

"I am naturally disappointed that things have not worked out at Norwich but going there has been a good experience for me.

"I am grateful to the club and all credit to them for being so understanding."

Barnet's former manager John Still has been 'moved upstairs', and will be working with Cottee once he takes over.

Barnet chairman Tony Kleanthous said: "I am delighted John Still is joining the board and that Tony Cottee has committed himself to a three-year contract with us."

Keep an eye on kumb for an exclusive Tony Cottee interview coming soon.
