Beware the ides of March

Today's Guardian claims that Alan Curbishley could face the sack due to the club's recent poor form.

West Ham go into today's derby clash with Tottenham on the back of two consecutive 4-0 defeats, whilst they have managed to score just six goals from their 11 fixtures so far this year.

Meanwhile the supporters have also been heavily critical of the under-fire boss who succeeded Alan Pardew just 15 months ago; on Wednesday night Curbishley was subjected to chants of 'boring, boring West Ham' and 'are we Charlton in disguise'.

In that defeat at Anfield on Wednesday night United managed just two efforts on goal in the entire match - both off target. The defeat against Chelsea four days earlier produced just three more - and all that against ten men for nearly an hour of play.

Curbishley has defended his tactics this week whilst urging supporters to back the team rather than criticise his methodology. But his time could be running out according to the Guardian who quote an unnamed 'source' as saying 'Curbishley may get until the end of the season, but other candidates are being considered - and he is aware of his situation.'

However the same piece cites another unnamed source who states, somewhat contradictarily:

"There was a board meeting in the week and at no point was Alan Curbishley's future discussed."

Whatever the truth it would appear that the knives are out for Curbishley, whose dour image and reserved style has never appealed to large sections of the club's support.
