Alexander in Swindon switch?

Hammers striker Gary Alexander, who spent much of last season on loan at Exeter City could move to second division Swindon Town within the next 24 hours.

West Ham have accepted a £300,000 bid from the Robins for the 20 year old striker, who has seen his chances of a first team place at Upton Park diminish with the arrival of both Davor Suker and Freddy Kanoute in the close season.

However, Hammers boss Harry Redknapp confirmed that a number of clubs are chasing the highly rated front man, and that despite the Hammers formal acceptance of Swindon's bid, Alexander may still end up elsewhere.

"It looks like Gary might be going to Swindon," he said this afternoon. "That's the offer that has been made and we're happy with that, although there are a few clubs in for him.

"It's thanks to Exeter and what Gary achieved there last season that he's got his chance. He's a smashing lad, but it's hard for him because there are a lot of strikers ahead of him here.

"I've got Di Canio, Suker, Kanoute and others, and he needs to get out and play a few games and get more experience."

Alexander was an instant hit at Exeter, where he scored 19 goals and won the Player of the Season award. Despite the Grecians interest in taking Alexander permanently they could not raise the cash necessary.

The Hammers had previously turned down an offer of £250,000 for Alexander - last season from conference outfit Rushden & Diamonds.

Alexander would be the second player the Robins have signed from the Hammers inside the past seven days - earlier in the week they signed Danny Invincible, who had been on trial at West Ham during the pre-season.
