Redknapp speaks out (again)

Harry Redknapp has once again spoken out about the Rio Ferdinand saga following another weekend of speculation in the media.

Leeds had again been involved in a move to take Rio northwards, with chairman Peter Ridsdale confirming at the weekend that his club had once again made a firm offer for the player.

But Harry spoke out yesterday to confirm that Rio would not be going to Leeds. 'I understand that they are prepared to go to £15m for him, but he's not going there" he said sharply. "'We have said all along that we want to keep Rio and I believe it is not the right time for him to go."

Redknapp also mentioned the rumour linking Ferdinand with a move to Barcelona. "'I am told they are prepared to offer us £14m plus Winston Bogarde, but that doesn't make sense because I've already been offered the same player for less than £1m" he revealed.

"The truth is though that I don't want to lose Rio. I believe we could have a successful season and I want him to be part of it."

Rio himself is happy to stay at West Ham for the forseeable future. He will review his options towards the end of this coming season - and a lot depends on how well the Hammers do this year.

Redknapp was at Barnet last night to watch the friendly which West Ham won 4-3.
