Following days of speculation Paulo Wanchope has finally completed his long drawn out move to Premiership rivals Manchester City.

Wanchope finally put pen to paper early this evening to sign a five year deal with City.

He joins his new teammates tomorrow for his first training session.

Wanchope had asked for the move to be put on hold so he could discuss the move with his family. He finally signed today a week after agreeing terms with Joe Royle.

City boss Royle said today: "Paulo is a thoughtful lad and he just wanted to discuss the move with his family as he is very family orientated. People say he was not successful in London but I don't agree. I hope he is as unsuccessful here!

"We flatter ourselves - and this is no disrespect to West Ham - that we can help him improve. We want him to enjoy himself and score goals."

Wanchope lasted just one season at the Boleyn. Despite scoring 15 goals last season he was vilified by some sections of the Upton Park faithful for his occasionally dreadful control and finishing. Hammers fans will be hoping this isn't one ex-player who comes back to haunt us as Wanchope did with his former club Derby County last season.
