West Ham find themselves behind at the break in this afternoon's Premier League clash against Burnley at Turf Moor.
The Irons put in yet another lacklustre shift and go into the break 1-0 behind, probably deservedly, thanks to David Nugent's 14th minute strike.Nugent - with six goals to his name from 51 Premier League outings prior to today - took advantage of an horrendous error by Matthew Upson to steal in behind the England hopeful and lift a hopeful punt by Danny Fox over Rob Green, himself stranded in no-mans-land.
The Irons rallied and went close to equalising on several occasions - most notably when debutant Benni McCarthy rounded Brian Jensen only to see his goalbound effort sliced off the line by Carl Cort on 33 minutes.
Indeed McCarthy was involved in most of West Ham's notable attacks and should have opened his United account in the 25th minute when having been put in by a clever Carlton Cole lob, he could 32-year-old sliced his effort horribly wide.
Burnley, despite taking the lead saw very little of the ball thereafter and rarely threatened to extend their lead; it's going to be a nervous second 45 minutes for both teams.
