Green starts for England

Robert Green will start for England against the United States tonight, it has just been confirmed.

The West Ham United number one has been selected above the two other candidates - Portsmouth's David James and Man City's Joe Hart - to start in Rustenburg later this evening.

West Ham's other representative in the squad - centre half Matthew Upson - starts on the bench, with Tottenham's Ledley King preferred alongside John Terry in the centre of defence.

Meanwhile Jon Spector - the sole Hammer in the USA squad - will also start on the bench; his place going to Hanover's Steve Cherundolo.

The match kicks off at The Royal Bafokeng Stadium at 7:30pm GMT with full live coverage in the UK on ITV.

England starting XI: Green; A Cole, Johnson, Terry, King; Gerrard (c), Lampard, Lennon, Milner; Heskey, Rooney.

USA starting XI: Howard; Cherundolo, DeMerit, Onyewu, Bocanegra; Donovan, Bradley, Clark, Dempsey; Altidore, Findley.
