Former Hammers striker Mido has been sent to jail following a fracas with a group of students.

The Egyptian striker - who would have been addressed by his full name Ahmed Hossam Hussein Abdelhamid in court - was sentenced to a month inside after he and a team mate were found guilty of attacking the trio.

Mido - who now plys his trade for his boyhood favourites Zamalek - was accused along with Shikabala (aka Mahmoud Abdel Razek Fadlallah) of attacking the three fans who had initially approached the pair for an autograph.

According to Ahram Online, Mido agreed to the request but Shikabala refused - sparking an angry scene that is said to have ended in a melee and subsequent damage to a vehicle owned by one of the students.

Both players were convicted of assault and criminal damage and sentenced to a month's jail time. Rumours that Mido was also charged with impersonating a professional footballer could not be verified at the time of writing.
