Former Hammer Jack Collison is hoping to land a contract with Premier League newcomers Queens Park Rangers.

Collison, who penned a 2,800-word letter to West Ham's supporters upon leaving the club back in May is currently training with Rangers, who were promoted back to the Premier League thanks to Bobby Zamora's play-off winner against Derby.

Despite having been strongly linked with the likes of Nottingham Forest and Leeds in recent weeks, the Welsh international is hoping to remain in the top flight with Rangers currently in pole position.

Speaking at a press conference this morning, Rangers manager Harry Redknapp said: "This season is about establishing ourselves in the Premier League. We won't spend fortunes. We'll invest wisely in the squad.

"We need to bring in five or six [players]. We need to improve the squad in terms of quality and numbers. Jack Collison is training with us. He's a smashing boy and I'd love to help him out. He's a fine player."

Redknapp has already signed one former Hammer this transfer window, following the recent arrival of Rio Ferdinand on a free transfer. "Rio's wage demands were low," added Redknapp. "He just wanted to come. It was easy."
