Hammers fans miss out on Amsterdam trip

West Ham have a new reason to be disappointed about last night's Europa League exit - as victory would have given them a very-winnable tie against Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar.

The Cheese Farmers (I kid you not) finished third in the Dutch first division last season and were drawn out of the hat in this morning's draw to face West Ham's conquerors Astra Giurgiu.

Based just 45 minutes drive north of Amsterdam, a popular tourist destination that would no doubt have served as a temporary base for travelling Irons fans, Alkmaar earned their way into the final Europa League play-off round courtesy of a 4-1 aggregate win over Turkish side Istanbul Baseksehir.

A second string West Ham team were beaten 2-1 in Romania last night, sending Slaven Bilic's side tumbling out of the competition 4-3 on aggregate.

Some of the delights Hammers fans would no doubt have partaken in whilst in Amsterdam
