Will Tottenham release Emmanuel Adebayor?

West Ham United's decision to sign Victor Moses on loan has given Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy something of a dilemma.

Spurs striker Emmanuel Adebayor had looked set to join West Ham on loan for the remainder of the season last week but failed to attend a planned medical on Thursday, since when United's interest has cooled.

However West Ham's decision to sign Victor Moses on loan from Chelsea means that option no longer exists, due to the rule stating that Premier League clubs can loan no more than two players from fellow members.

With Carl Jenkinson having already moved to the Boleyn on a season-long loan, there is no longer the scope to sign Adebayor on a temporary basis - meaning that he can only join the Hammers if Tottenham agree to sell or release him.

And with West Ham unlikely to offer a fee for the Togo international, who is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, Levy must now decide whether to allow Adebayor to leave on a free transfer - or hope that another club attempts to sign him on loan.

Aston Villa are also purportedly interested in signing the 31-year-old striker, who had previously spent time at Arsenal and Real Madrid.

But regardless of his eventual destination, Tottenham and Levy are desperate to offload a player who had failed to feature for the first team since last season but is costing Spurs in excess of £100,000 per week.
