James Collins was expecting to leave West Ham during the last transfer window - but could be on the verge of a new contract.

The experienced central defender was West Ham's star man in the goalless draw at Swansea last weekend having played a key role in ensuring the team kept a third consecutive clean sheet.

And Slaven Bilic revealed this morning that he expects to open talks with the 32-year-old Welsh international later in the season, should his good form continue.

Asked this morning whether he intended to discuss a new contract offer with Collins at the end of the season when his existing deal expires, Bilic replied: "Definitely. I will do that with him.

"He wasn't just good against Swansea. I have said a number of times, he's a brilliant pro. He has been from day one, whether he was on the bench or just training or playing for five minutes coming or half an hour, or now 90 minutes. He's magnificent for us."

KUMB revealed exclusively on transfer deadline day back in August how Collins felt that he was being driven out of the club.

Despite being considered surplus to requirements at that point, he has impressed whenever called upon since despite being considered behind the likes of Winston Reid and Angelo Ogbonna in the pecking order.
