Tomkins doubtful for City visit

James Tomkins is a doubt for this Saturday's clash with Manchester City after picking up a knock against Newcastle last weekend.

The centre half - who has been deputising for the out-of-form Carl Jenkinson at right back in recent weeks - is the only fresh injury concern for Slaven Bilic ahead of Saturday evening's meeting with the title-chasers at the Boleyn Ground.

"James Tomkins has a small injury from the game against Newcastle," confirmed Bilic. "He's going to train individually today and if he's good then he's going to join us in training tomorrow (Friday) for a game to see if he's going to be available for Saturday."

However there was better news on the defensive front regarding another long-term injury. "Joey O’Brien is back," added Bilic. "He has been through a lot of setbacks regarding his injuries and I’m glad for him that he will join us. Hopefully he will be fit for the long term now.

"All the others are good. Carroll, Sakho and Lanzini are still out but their recoveries are going well and they should be back ahead of schedule, so we're looking at mid-February - or early February for at least one of them."

West Ham will be attempting to complete the double over City this weekend, having won 2-1 at the City of Manchester stadium back in September courtesy of goals from Victor Moses and the aforementioned Sakho.

The visitors, third in the Premier League at present go into the game just a point behind league leaders Arsenal - whilst the Hammers are currently just three places behind in sixth spot.
