Yilmaz was previously linked with a move to the Boleyn Ground in 2012 when still at former club Trabzonspor. At the time he was available for a cut-price €5million, due to a release clause in his contract.
And co-owner David Sullivan confirmed the following summer that West Ham had indeed been close to landing the Antalya-born goalscorer. "We tried to get him this time last year but he wanted to stay in Turkey," he srevealed during a social media Q&A seassion in July 2013.
As recently as August 2015, West Ham were again linked with a move for Yilmaz with reports suggesting that the club made two bids for the 6'2" striker (an initial bid of €3.5million, which was rejected, and later a revised offer).
