Gold's latest twitter gaffe

Filed: Sunday, 24th January 2016

Co-owner David Gold has retweeted a message referring to West Ham's on-loan defender Cark Jenkinson as "utter wank".

Gold, who has come under fire several times previously for his errant use of social media retweeted the message following yesterday's 2-2 draw with Manchester City. And despite being urged to remove it by a number of supporters, the tweet remains on his timeline.

The message began by thanking Gold for helping improve West Ham's recent fortunes - before launching into a vile attack on Jenkinson, who was responsible for conceding a penalty against the Citizens at the Boleyn Ground yesterday.

A number of supporters leapt to Gold's defence in the immediate aftermath of his re-post, insisting that he probably didn't read the entire message. However that would appear to be wide of the mark given that it remains on his time line, more than 12 hours later.

Gold has fallen foul of twitter trolls several times previously. Last November he retweeted a prank "missing" message about Michail Antonio, who had barely featured since his £7million move from Nottingham Forest.

And previously, in July 2014, he was forced to apologise after accidentally re-tweeting a message calling for the dismissal of then-manager Sam Allardyce - an error he blamed on having just completed a 33-hour flight from New Zealand.

* UPDATE: The offending tweet was removed from Mr Gold's timeline on Sunday afternoon, following the publication of this story.
