Enner back in Ecuador

Enner Valencia has returned to Ecuador - in order to prepare for the forthcoming Copa America Centenario.

Valencia's Ecuador are one of 16 teams taking place in the mini-tournament, which takes place in the United States between 3-26 June.

And the West Ham star - whose own future at the Olympic Stadium is uncertain following a relatively quiet season - believes his nation can go far in the competition.

"We have a tremendous desire to get started," the 25-year-old striker, speaking from the team's training camp in Guayaquil told La Hora. "We have to believe we'll do well in this tournament - and I think we can do so."

Ecuador - who have been placed in Group B - kick off their campaign on 4 June with a tricky encounter against tournament favourites Brazil in Pasadena's 95,000-capacity Rose Bowl Stadium.

Four days later, on 8 June, they face Peru (University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale AZ) before wrapping up the group phase with a clash against Haiti at the MetLife Stadium in Eastrutherford NJ.

The top two teams from each of the four groups will quialify for the quarter finals, which take place between 16-18 June.

The Copa America is the oldest international tournament iin the world, having been contested since 1916 - exactly 100 years ago.
