Hammers gazumped in Batshuayi deal

West Ham United's pursuit of Michy Batshuayi looks to be dead in the water after it was revealed that Chelsea have agreed a ?33million fee for the striker with Marseille.

The 22-year-old was already poised to leave L'OM this summer with the Ligue 1 side desperate to sell in order to balance the books.

However a late move from the west London club has seen them beat off the Hammers and a string of other clubs to Batshuayi's signature, according to fresh reports from across the Channel this morning.

Despite being heavily linked with a move to West Ham for several months, Batshuayi always insisted that he would prefer to move to a club that can offer him Champions League football - one of the reasons he rejected a move to Crystal Palace this week, despite the Eagles bidding an astonishing ?38million for his services.

And with Chelsea said to be sending a medical team to the Belgian squad base in France, the deal looks set to be completed sooner rather than later - despite the Blues not participating in the UCL next season, either!

West Ham - who it has been claimed had previously reached an agreement with Marseille prior to them learning of Chelsea's interest (see above) - will now turn their attentions to other targets, including Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette, Besiktas' Mario Gomez and Christian Benteke.
