Squad returns for pre-season

West Ham United's first team squad returned for pre-season training this morning - minus one or two notable faces.

Whilst new arrivals Sofiane Feghouli and Havard Nordtveit signed in at Chadwell Heath for the first - and last - time due to the impending move to Rush Green, some of West Ham's Euro 16 stars were absent.

Dimitri Payet (France), James Collins (Wales) and Angelo Ogbonna (Italy) are all still involved in the tournament and will therefore join up with the squad once they return from the club's US tour.

And one or two others who have been involved in international competition since the end of last season - such as Enner Valencia, who represented Ecuador in the Copa America - have also been excused duty.

Michail Antonio, who moved to West Ham from Nottingham Forest last August was also absent as his partner is due to give birth shortly.

Of course, the squad's return to Chadwell Heath will prove to be shortlived - for they fly to the United States tomorrow ahead of the first of two friendlies and by the time they return, the club's training base will have moved to the club's Rush Green site.

"When we return from our pre-season trip, we will train at our newly-redeveloped facility at Rush Green," Stijn Vandenbroucke told whufc.com.

"Slaven, his staff, myself and my team have had a big role in designing the new training ground and the flow is very good for the staff and players, and an immense improvement on Chadwell Heath."
