Collins reaches semis as Welsh upset the odds

James Collins came off the bench to feature in Wales' stunning 3-1 quarter final win over Begium tonight.

West Ham's experienced centre half hadn't featured in Euro 16 prior to his introduction as a 90th-minute replacement for Aaron Ramsey, but consequently ended the match on the field in one of Welsh football history's greatest nights.

Despite falling behind to a rocket of a shot from Radja Nainggolan after just 13 minutes, Wales drew level through inspirational captain Ashley WIlliams on the half-hour mark.

And second half strikes from Acton-born Hal Robson-Kanu and Sam Vokes (b. in Southampton) commpleted a surprise -but not wholly unexpected - win for the Welsh (and guaranteed some admittedly tenuous English interest in the last four).

Despite having left the competition in disgrace earlier in the week, England's impotent and mismanaged squad remain the only team to have beaten Wales so far in the tourmanent.

However it is Collins and his team mates who are having the last laugh, and as a result of their latest unexpected success it is they who can now look forward to a semi final tie against Portugal next Wednesday evening.

* Dimitri Payet (France) and Angelo Ogbonna (Italy) are also in action for their respective nations this weekend. West Ham's fourth and final Euro 16 representative, Darren Randolph, was knocked out with the RoI squad in the last 16.
