Talented youngster Idris Kanu has finally left West Ham - for National League outfit Aldershot Town.

The highly-rated 16-year-old began his career at West Ham, for whom he has featured since the age of 11.

And only last month he appeared to be close to securing a move to Manchester United after spending a brief spell on loan with the club at their Carrington training complex.

However the striker has surprised many by snubbing both Uniteds in favour of the fifth-tier non-league club, who are currently sixth in the National League, 15 games into the campaign.

“We’re fortunate to have signed a very talented player," said Shots boss Gary Waddock via his club's website. "We need to make sure that we help him to realise his potential but we are planning for the future."

Kanu made 17 appearances for West Ham United's Under 18s last season, scoring two goals. He made his debut for Aldershot as an 86th-minute substitute in their 2-0 win over Solihull Moors on Saturday.
