Dimitri Payet has been named in a 30-man shortlist for the 2016 Ballon D'or.

The West Ham midfielder is ther only player not currently featuring in European competition to be included on the short list, which includes the likes of Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) and Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid).

And Payet reacted to the news with a message posted via Instagram. "An honour and a great pride to be a member of this list of 30 players nominated for the Ballon D'Or 2016," he said.

Payet becomes the first West Ham player to be nominated for the award since Trevor Brooking came 19th in 1981 (the highest-ranked English player that year). Booby Moore previously came second in 1970 and fourth in 1966.
