Former Hammers striker Zavon Hines has signed for Southend United on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old forward was a free agent having been unattached to a club since leaving Dagenham & Redbridge at the end of last season, following their relegation to the National League. However the Kingston-born Zines will now wear a Southend United shirt for the remainder of the season having signed a short-term deal with the League One club.
Hines, who left West Ham in 2011 after coming through Tony Carr's world-famous Academy made a total of 31 first team appearances for the Hammers (12 starting and the remainder as a substitute).
He scored three first team goals in claret and blue; in a 4-1 Carling Cup win against Macclesfield in August 2008, once in the Premier League against Aston Villa (November 2009) and perhaps most famously, against Millwall in a 2009, 3-1 Carling Cup win.
