West Ham are leading the race to sign Fulham defender Ryan Fredericks, according to latest reports.

The Hammers have been keeping a close eye on developments regarding the 25-year-old, who is out of contract and set to leave the Cottagers on a free next month, for some considerable time.

And whilst several Premier League clubs are understood to have made their interest known West Ham are in pole position to land Fredericks, who would be a natural successor to Pablo Zabalata, eight years his senior.

One source, the Daily Mail claimed on Wednesday night that the right back was "close to agreeing terms", having refused Fulham's latest offer of a bumper new deal following their Championship play-off success against Aston Villa last weekend.

Hammersmith-born Fredericks, a former schools sprint champion who began his career with Tottenham left White Hart Lane before making a single competitive first team appearance.

He arrived at Fulham followed loan spells with Brentford, Millwall and Middlesbrough plus a very brief spell at Bristol City in 2015 where, less than a month after signing a three-year contract at Ashton Gate, he left to join current club Fulham.

* The Mail's Lee Clayton reports that West Ham are also attempting to push through a deal for Lazio star Filipe Anderson. The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks, with Tottenham also expressing interest recently.
