Quiet night for international Hammers

It was a disappointing evening for West Ham's internationals in the latest round of nation v nation fixtures.

Marko Arnautovic's Austria may have been heavily praised in recent weeks following a string of exceptional performances but were hugely disappointing in their UEFA Nations League Group B3 clash in Bosnia on Tuesday night, going down 1-0 to Edin Dzeko's late winner.

Arnautovic played the full 90 minutes for his country but was unable to make the most of the scant opportunities that fell his way - in stark contrast to Austria's previous outing, a 2-0 friendly win over Sweden last week.

Bosnia and Austria are joined in the three-team Group B3 by Northern Ireland, who provide Austria's next opponents in the UEFA Nations League.

Meanwhile Kucasz Fabianski's Poland and Robert Snoodgrass' Scotland faced the Republic of Ireland and Albania respectively last night, but both players remained as unused substitutes.

The Poles, for whom Juventus' Wojciech Szczesny kept goal, drew 1-1 with the Irish in a friendly whilst Scotland beat Albania 2-0 to place them in pole position in UEFA Nations League Group C1.

West Ham United's only other full international on show this week was Andriy Yarmolenko, who grabbed the only goal of the game in Ukraine's Nations League Group B1 clash against Slovakia on Sunday evening.

The win ensured the Ukraine start their campign with maximum points, following a 2-1 win in the Czech Republic last Thursday in their opening group game (goals coming from former Hammers target Yevhen Konoplyanka, currently with Schalke, and Manchester City's Oleksandr Zinchenko).

* There were also international appearances for several Academy youngsters including Nathan Trott (England Under 20s), Conor Coventry (Republic of Ireland Under 19s), Ajibola Alese (England Under 18s) and Sebastian Nebyla (Slovakia U17s).
