Jack Wilshere has described Marko Arnautovic as "one of the best" strikers he has playing with during his career.

The injured midfielder, who is currently sidelined with a foot problem also thanked the Austrian international for being "great" with him since arriving at the club on a free transfer during the summer.

"Arnautovic is some player," he said. "I've played with some strikers, great players and he is up there. He is right up there.

"Ability-wise he's powerful, he's got so much in his game. His attitude is brilliant. He's a good character and is one of the leaders in the team as well.

"Before I went to West Ham I didn't know know with him, but he's been great from day one. He welcomed me in. He gives me a bit of stick but I can handle it."

The 29-year-old forward has scored four times for West Ham this season from his first nine appearances. He is scheduled to feature next against Denmark when the two nations meet at the MCH Arena in an international friendly next Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile Wilshere continues to recover from the operation he underwent last month to cure a problematic ankle; he is likely to be out of action for some considerable time yet.
