Jack Wilshere is likely to be back in contention for a first team spot from next week, says Manuel Pellegrini.

Wilshere, who recently underwent an operation to resolve just the latest in a string of ankle-related injuries he has experienced during his professional career made his long-awaited return to action last week when featuring for the Under 23s.

However Manuel Pellegrini believes he will be available for selection for the first team within a fortnight. "Jack Wilshere is almost ready," he revealed on Friday morning during a press conference.

"He played an Under 23s game last week and he will play another one. Hopefully next week he will be 100 per cent with us."

West Ham's next first team match following this weekend's trip to Old Trafford is the encounter with Leicester City at Stratford next weekend.

Meanwhile Liam Manning's Under 23s travel to Derby County on Monday night (April 15) - a fixture that Wilshere will almost definitely be involved in.

In other injury news, Pellegrini revealed that he is not expecting any of his previously injured players to return for this weekend's Manchester test.

"The players that have long injuries - Yarmolenko and Carlos Sanchez - are recovering," he confirmed. "In a couple of weeks I hope they are ready to work with the squad.

"Andy Carroll has had surgery in his ankle and Samir Nasri felt his muscle. Winston Reid is also still working back from his long injury."
