West Ham United central defender Issa Diop has been named in Garth Crooks' Team of the Week - for his efforts in beating the former Spurs striker's old team.

The former French Under 21 international received praise from many quarters at the weekend for his excellent performance against the Lillywhites, who succumbed to their first defeat at their new stadium at the weekend.

And key to that victory was the performance of Diop, who Crooks couldn't help but eulogise over in his latest BBC article.

"I saw that lad play brilliantly away at Everton earlier in the season and I knew then that Diop could defend," wrote Crooks.

"What I saw at Tottenham Hotspur was a defender wh not only took on the responsibility at key moments but read the game beautifully."

Yet Crooks - who also praised fellow defender Ryan Fredericks (who, he insisted, was "impressive against his old club") - was at a loss to understand why fellow London clubs appeared to raise their game against Tottenham.

"If West Ham approached every game as tough they were playing Tottenham, they would win the Premier League title," he suggested.

"What is it with these London clubs. Why do they hate Tottenham so much?"
