United wanted to take the Argentine on a free transfer this summer as back-up to new Hammer of the Year Lukasz Fabianski, although those hopes have been scuppered with the news that he has signed an extended deal with the Blues.

"I am very happy to renew my contract with Chelsea and hopefully we can enjoy the next season and achieve a lot of targets," Caballero told chelseafc.com. "For me, to stay at a big club like Chelsea was a really easy decision."

West Ham will now turn their attentions to other targets, such as Cardiff City number one Neil Etheridge who enjoyed an excellent season between the sticks for the Welsh club depsite them being relegated at the end of the 2018/19 campaign.
