Although West Ham agreed to meet Gomez's minimum fee release clause of EUR50 million (?45million), representatives of the club - including Director of Football Mario Hussilos - have been unable to agree payment terms.

Whilst Celta had demanded the entire fee in advance, West Ham were willing to pay in instalments only - and following an impasse have finally pulled out of the race to sign the in-demand striker.

The Hammers, who can currently count on wantaway Javier Hernandez as the club's sole striker will now return to alternative targets in order to fill the void vacated by Andy Carroll, Marko Arnautovic and Lucas Perez.
