West Ham United's first team squad has arrived in China ahead of the Asia trophy semi final against Manchester City.

The 23-man squad arrived in the world's most heavily-populated country earlier this morning where they were greeted by a small crowd of local supporters, many of whom were dressed in the club's colours.

Shanghai was the destination for Manuel Pellegrini and his squad before making a short internal flight to Nanjing, where they will train ahead of Wednesday evening's opening game of the Asia Trophy against favourites Manchester City.

West Ham kick off their tournament against City at 1.30pm on Wednesday, 17 July. The second semi final, which takes place on the same day will be contested between fellow Premier League clubs Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United.

The two losing semi finalists will face each other in a third-place play off in Shanghai on Saturday, 20 July at 6pm - whilst the two winners will contest the final immediately afterwards, also in the city's Hongkou Stadium.

West Ham's travelling party features just two of the club's three summer signings, with the team's only outfield addition thus far this summer - midfielder Pablo Fornals - not involved.

The club's only previous visit to China came a decade ago when United were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham in the Asia Trophy semi final, before going on to beat local side Beijing Guoan 2-0 in the third-place play off.
