West Ham new boy Sebastien Haller admits that he has a lot to live up to - but says he is determined to make everyone proud.

The club's record signing was officially confirmed as a West Ham United player on Wednesday following several days of speculation and will cost the club an initial ?40.5million - a new record fee that exceeds the ?34million paid to Lazio for Felipe Anderson to Lazio last summer.

And whilst he won't meet the majority of his new team mates until they return from the Asia Trophy, which culminates this weekend with a third-place pay off against fellow beaten semi finalists Newcastle, Haller seemed determined to hit the ground running when speaking to the club's website.

"I feel really great; I think it's a really good opportunity for me to be here," he said. "It means a lot, it proves that the club really wanted me for a long time. I feel this desire to sign me and I'm really happy to sign.

"I'm someone who thinks a lot about every choice I make and examine all the details. The possibility to sign here was looking really great so I said yes, we have to do it.

"It's an ambitious club, a nice club in a nice city with nice fans too. It only took a few days to make this decision and now it's real, I feel good. It'll be exciting to play because I know there's a lot of quality in attack and I want to see this - and also show this."

And the 6'3" French striker, who at 25 is in his prime as a footballer insisted that he will be a fully committed player, come rain or shine.

"I can guarantee that I will give 100 per cent for the club," he comfirmed. "The club gave me this confidence and I will try to give it back every day and for every game. I will give everything I have.

"I know this is a big transfer and that there is a lot of expectation around me. You never know what the future holds and I just want to make people proud. I will give everything I have.

"We have to go on the pitch, I have to score some goals - and then we'll see what will happen."
