West Ham are hoping to conclude a deal to sign Portuguese teenager Goncalo Cardoso from Boavista ahead of this week's transfer window deadline.

The 18-year-old, left-footed youth international is one of the continent's most highly-rated teenagers and is set for a €3million switch from the Primiera Liga side ahead of Thursday's cut-off point.

Cardozo, who has represented his country regularly at Under 19 level is due to fly to England on Monday in order to undergo a medical, with the club's having agreed terms according to Portuguese daily Record.

Central defender Cardoso made his first team debut for Boavista against Desportivo das Aces in October last year, three weeks before his 18th birthday.

He went on to make 15 appearances for his club during the 2018/19 campaign, during which he picked up five yellow cards and a red card during a 1-0 defeat at Braga back in January.

Cardoso is set to become West Ham's fifith signing of the January transfer window, following the arrival of Sebastien Haller, Pablo Fornals and goalkeepers Roberto and David Martin.
