Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that Albian Ajeti is in line to make his debut for West Ham in tonight's Carabao Cup second round tie at Newport County.

The boss, speaking this afternoon ahead of the trip to South Wales confirmed that, as expected, he is set to make several changes to the team that won 3-1 at Watford on Saturday.

And one of the players set to come into his starting XI is Swiss striker Ajeti, who signed for West Ham on transfer deadline day earlier this month in an ?8million move from Basel.

"We need to make some changes; that's why Jack Wilshere and Robert Snodgrass were not involved [against Watford]," said Pellegrini.

"We'll see about the starting eleven, but I am certain that Ajeti will play because he's doing very well in training sessions and he deserves that opportunity.

"It's a different competition and we need to play on a Tuesday. Different competitions and different games have different moments.

"We need to see other players put in good performances so, until after this game, the most important competition to me is the EFL Cup."

Pellegrini also admitted that his team would have to put in a similar performance to that which secured the three points at Vicarage Road in order to shake of the change of the Ironsiders, who are unbeaten in League Two so far this season.

"We know that Newport are a team that play well in the cups," he added. "They've eliminated Leicester and they've drawn with Tottenham.

"We are trying to put our mindset into continuing in the EFL Cup. We also gained a lot of experience last season against Wimbledon.

"We need to play with the same attitude that we played with against Watford. If not, we are going to have some bad moments."
