West Ham have been drawn against the team that knocked Millwall out of the Carabao Cup last night in the third round.

The Hammers once again face a trip away to lower league opposition after they were drawn against Oxford United in the competition's third round draw, staged on Wednesday evening.

And but for a late revival by the League One side, West Ham could've been facing their bitterest rivals in the next stage.

In Tuesday's night second round tie at the Kassam Stadium, Millwall were leading 2-0 with just three minutes of normal time remaining - before late goals from Mark Sykes and James Henry forced the tie into a shootout.

Oxford, currently 17th in League One went on to win the tie 4-2 on spot kicks - the result of which is a plum home tie against the Hammers, who secured passage through to the next stage courtesy of a 2-0 win at Newport County.

The two sides have previously met on 15 occasions, most recently in 2010 when West Ham narrowly beat Oxford 1-0 thanks to a 90th minute Scott Parker effort.

The Hammers have won nine of those meetings to Oxford's four, with the other two games ending in draws.

The full third round draw is as follows - all ties take place in the week commencing 23 September:

Crawley Town v Stoke City
Arsenal v Nottingham Forest
Sheffield Wednesday v Everton
Chelsea v Grimsby Town/Macclesfield Town
Luton Town v Leicester City
Manchester United v Rochdale
MK Dons v Liverpool
Preston North End v Manchester City
Burton Albion v AFC Bournemouth
Portsmouth v Southampton
Colchester United v Tottenham Hotspur
Sheffield United v Sunderland
Brighton & Hove Albion v Aston Villa
Watford v Swansea City
Oxford United v West Ham United
Wolves v Reading
