Academy striker Oladapo Afolayan will spend the rest of 2019 on loan at Mansfield, having agreed a short term loan deal.

The 21-year-old goalscorer admitted that he was "happy" to have secured the move which will give him the opportunity to play first team football until January.

"They are all good boys here and they've got to know me quite well already," Afolayan told the League Two club's website. "I'm really happy to be here.

"I want to hit the ground running and try to get as many goals as I can. I want to help the club push on because I know it's a massive club that has aspirations of being higher.

"It is an opportunity to get my name out there again. I want to fulfil my potential and show everyone, especially the Mansfield Town supporters, what I'm all about."

The former Solihull Moore striker joined West Ham in January last year, since when he has established himself in United's Under 23s squad.

And he insisted that his short spell at the club had already been of considerable benefit.

"At West Ham we work hard on our technique and in every training session we drive ourselves to the highest standards," he added. "Tactically I've become a lot more aware as well, so anything that's thrown at me I'll be able to handle.

"West Ham is a great club and I've worked well in the Academy over the last few months. I feel like I'm in a great position now to push on."

Having already spent a brief spell on loan at Oldham last season, Afolayan believes that he is ready to hit the ground running for Town, who are currently 14th in League Two having lost just one of their opening five matches this season.

"The experience I gathered playing [at Oldham] was good and it was good to be in and around League Two," he said. "It's a tough league to play in, but I felt that I did quite well aside from missing out on a few opportunities."

Meanwhile Mansfield boss John Dempster revealed that he was delighted to secure the signing of a player he described as "a good character".

"We're really pleased to get it over the line," he said. "Dapo is somebody who will bring something different to the team.

"When the opportunity came up to take him on loan we were in competition with other clubs, so we're really pleased to have him on board. He's full of energy and will run in behind and stretch teams. He'll bring a lot of value to our squad."
