Academy defender Ajibola Alese will spend the remainder of 2019 in League One on loan with Accrington Stanley.

Alese, who has been a regular fixture in the Under 23s despite being just 18 is one of three loan signings Stanley have made on the EFL's transfer deadline day, following in the footsteps of Preston's Connor Simpson and Jerome Opoku (Fulham).

"I'm very excited, I've heard a lot about the club, I've done a lot of research and I can't wait to get started," he told the League One club's website.

"So far I've only played Under-23s football so I know League One is going to be tough, but if I can do well then it will help me in my career a lot.

"I feel as though I bring pace, I can read the game well and I feel as though I can play with the ball at my feet as well."

England youth international Alese was welcomed to his new club by Stanley manager John Coleman, who revealed that he was keen to help the youngster "kickstart" his professional career.

"He's a highly-rated prospect at West Ham and he's been around the England squads," said Coleman. "This is the chance for him to make the transition from junior to senior football.

"We feel as though he has the attributes to make that step and left-sided centre-backs are quite rare, so that's another plus - and hopefully he can kickstart his senior career with us.

"Players do benefit from the experience of others here and I've had very good reports about his character as well."

Alese is the third player to leave West Ham in the last 72 hours following in the footsteps of Javier Hernandez (Seville) and Serbian youth international Kristijan Belic (Olympiacos).
