West Ham goalscorer Aaron Cresswell admitted to being delighted with his goal against Manchester United - but was equally pleased with contributing to a third successive clean sheet in the league.

The left back, reinstated to the first team as a result of Arthur Masuaku's suspension following his dismissal at Villa Park last week scored West Ham's second in a 2-0 win with a fantastic free kick during the closing stages of Sunday's match.

However he insisted that the clean sheet - West Ham's fourth in a row in all competitions - was possibly even more satisfying.

"It always helps [to score] but a clean sheet was the main thing," he told Sky Sports after the final whistle. "We got that and that's three on the bounce.

"I started the first game but clearly wasn't good enough as we got beat 5-0. Arthur's come in and done well but that's the little bit of luck, even though Arthur got sent off.

"But the main thing is getting the three points and we're all together as one team."

Cresswell, who scored only his sixth goal since joining West Ham five years ago - and the first since notching United's only goal in a 4-1 defeat at Manchester City in April 2018 - admitted that today's effort was one of his more memorable efforts.

But he reiterated that, having been involved in that heavy opening day defeat against Manchester City, the shut-out against one of the Premier League's traditionally more notable teams was key.

"It was one of my best free kicks but I'm a defender first and the clean sheet I was happy with," he added. "But it's always nice to get a goal."
